A lot of folks think that because a car is new, it will be defect-free. Check out the rail dust and marring that had to be corrected prior to wrapping with paint protection film or Modesta.

The tail lights on both sides had damage from someone running a rotary and edging out the backing plate on the lenses. We corrected these defects as well.

Unfortunately, the newest Porsche’s require removal of the bumper to remove the headlights. Removal of the headlights is almost a necessity on Porsche’s due to the design. Without paint protection film coverage inside and behind the headlights, intensive damage is sure to occur. Our advanced wrap ensure maximum protection.

Where some use IR lamps as an option and for a showy display. We know that Modesta requires shortwave IR curing because of it’s thickness. Shortwave IR curing of Modesta BC-05 ensures the base of this very thick coating has a complete bond with the clear coat before leaving our facility. This allows the coating to have the ideal circumstances to cure over the following 2 weeks.

3 Reasons why you should have clear bra installed on your new car

1. Clear bra keeps your car looking great while you own/enjoy it!

We buy cars for a few reasons. Probably the biggest is because we like how it looks and the fact it is *new* to us. Anything we can do to keeping the car looking as close to new as possible will allow you to keep loving it like it is new. Clear bra wears much better than hard clear coat does and is the pinnacle of paint protection. It stops rock chips, protects the paint from scratches and protects against vandalism**. Because it is pliable, it does not pit as severely as paint does. Many clear bras also have self-healing properties that keep them swirl mark-free, which is more than any paint can do!

2. Clear bra is invisible protection that cleans up like paint!

When clear bra is installed by an expert, you can’t tell it’s on the car and clear bra is cleaned just like paint. With a quality installation, exposed edges of panels are wrapped in a way that greatly limits seams and when walking around the car, you won’t be able to tell anything is on the car at all! And clear bra is cleaned very similar to paint. It is washed and cleaned with paint-safe chemicals, wash mitts and microfiber drying towels. Clear bras with top coats are easy to clean when properly maintained.

3. Clear bra protects your car so that you can recover the most money when you sell it and it sells faster!

It is a fact that used cars that look better, sell for more and sell faster than an alternative car in poorer condition. When selling your car after years of clear bra protection, you may leave the clear bra on and sell the car that way or you may choose to remove it and have just fresh paint to entice a new potential owner. Smokies GT3 event, an auction to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and a GT3RS

Reflecting on an incredible event that supports a wonderful cause

As I sit and reflect on this event and what came afterwards I have a hard time putting my thoughts into words. Most openings to articles are supposed to have some kind of flair to them to engage a reader. But even after cutting all the fat off of this story what I am left with is appreciation that my company, Detailed Designs Auto Spa, was ask to support Smokies GT3 event and that we were able to generate such a healthy donation for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. I suppose I will start with how things began and the story will end with an extensive Porsche 991 GT3RS project that we performed paint correction, a full body Xpel clear bra wrap, Modesta wheel and caliper coating and Modesta BC-05 glass paint coating on.

Back in 2015 Detailed Designs Auto Spa performed a full body Xpel Stealth clear bra wrap on a Rhodium Silver Porsche 991 GT3 (which you can read about HERE). Some of the owner’s buddies, who are Porsche owners, saw the project and decided to reach out to us to see if we wanted to participate in supporting their Smokies GT3 event that was to be held in a few months. They wanted someone to keep the participant’s cars clean over a few days.

One other mention was made about potentially supporting the live auction with a donation that went towards the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. While I had heard of Cystic Fibrosis, I didn’t really know what it was. So I did some reading, watched a few videos and knew that it was an organization that deserved whatever we could afford. As this a disease that primarily affects young children, and having 2 kids myself, this struck a nerve with me. They had hopes of getting $10k from the auction to go towards CFF, so I offered to perform our track package clear bra installation and Modesta wheel, caliper and body coating. This had a value of about $5,000 and I hoped we could help them get halfway to their mark. ….but as things progressed, there was a need for a change for the donation….

The organizers were pleased to have us as a part of the event and I made sure my staff and I were there to support it the best way we could; with our donation and brief, but safe maintenance washes.

Northbound and driving through Helen, GA.

We arrived and began setting up for some maintenance washes right away. The staff at The Ridges Resort & Marina were very helpful to us in getting set up and working with us while we stole the whole lower parking lot.

We waited hours for participants to arrive. It started as a slow roll of folks and then…

We quickly got overwhelmed…

This carried on for 2.5 days. While we were not able to give cars the typical attention we give maintenance washes. We were able to safely clean the paint and wheel faces in short order. Enough to work on an incredible amount of cars over a few days.

When the washes were over, it was time to get serious about making a REAL impact.

The washes were a great convenience for the attendees. My guys loved the experience because it was fun(and they were deep in OT for the whole event -lol) and I enjoyed stretching my onsite detailing legs that had not seen action for years. But going into the last day there was a banquette and live auction to support the cystic fibrosis foundation and this was what I had been looking forward to the most.

The organizers had hoped to get $10,000 in donations for the CFF. At the start, I felt as if I could have a real impact by getting half of that and then it would be a meaningful donation. But after speaking with an organizer who had 2 children afflicted with this disease, I was moved to do a bit more. Gone was a track package clear bra wrap, body and wheel coating. Out came the big gun. I wanted to do everything possible to help SmokiesGT3 reach their target so I upgraded the donation to a new car prep, paint correction, full body Xpel clear bra wrap, Modesta on the wheels and calipers and Modesta on the body of the car. With a retail value of about $10,000, all we needed were some generous bidders to make this happen!

What’d we have at this event? A room full of generous people looking to help a cause. The mark was hit. After a little back and forth, our donated service reached a winning bid of $10,800. Coupled with many other sponsors, the event was able to raise $46,500!! What a successful effort and certainly one with a noble cause.

Finally, she arrives. Project Lava Orange GT3 RS Begins.

After waiting months for the winning bidder’s car to arrive, it showed up. Within 2 weeks of arriving, I was picking the car up at the Caffeine and Octane car show in Atlanta and driving it back to the shop to begin on this epic project.

After telling a teenager to have a sit in the car at the show, the owner tossed me the keys and said, “have fun!” (lol! I’ll be sure to enjoy the paranoid ride back to my shop!)

Part of our 21-stage cleaning is a hand wash with gentle wash mitts and our custom blended shampoo.

Chemical decon happens before mechanical decon.

Dried with towels and forced air.

The whole body was machine polished to remove superficial defects and bring the surface to a beautiful luster prior to installing clear bra.

Part of the prep for the clear bra installation was removal of some reasonable to remove parts. While this was not our advanced full body clear bra wrap, we do remove parts that are easy to remove as it’s just the right way to do a full body clear bra wrap. The following parts were removed before the body was wrapped with clear bra: headlights, taillights, front side markers, rear sticker, rear quarter vent intakes, rear engine lid spoiler and mounting points. Removing these parts allow us to give a far better looking installation with better protection.

This car will be enjoyed on the track. We knew just a single layer of clear bra may not be enough so we layered additional clear film that was 20 mils thick on top of the 8 mil thick clear bra for a total of 28 mils of protection for the most exposed areas.

She was now protected from physical impacts. Up next? Incredible gloss, chemical resistance and ease of maintenance with Modesta BC-05!

Modesta BC-05 goes on just a “little” thick.

Modesta body coatings are unlike solvent-rich coatings on the market. Modesta BC-05 requires short-wave infrared lamp curing to begin the curing process at the base of the coating where it meets the substrate. The total curing process takes 2 weeks but before a Modesta project leaves the base of the coating is completely cured ensuring a long term bond! Modesta is a real glass coating system that increases gloss and luster, provides chemical resistance, is easier to keep clean(and easier TO clean) and protects much better than any wax or sealant does. A cured Modesta coating job gives a candy-like gloss that can last for many years!

Detailed Designs Auto Spa was the first detailing company in North America to import and modify programmable KRAUSS short-wave infrared lamps. Our desire to offer the highest quality results possible drives us to think outside the box and take these steps. Our KRAUSS IR curing process is exact and perfect. No guess work and no estimates on how our Modesta jobs are cured. These programmable lights heat the surfaces to precisely 140 degrees for the designated timeframe. All said and done, the project was picked up after we performed a new car prep, paint correction, an extensive full body Xpel clear bra wrap, wheels coated with Modesta and body coated with Modesta BC-05. Protection for the streets of Atlanta and fit and finish for a king.

It was a great experience supporting the Smokies GT3 event with onsite washes, answering technical questions and donating this service to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and we look forward to supporting the event in the future! This was a lot of work, but the cause made it all worth while.

GT4 comes to us from Porsche Experience Center before heading home to Ohio

After months of waiting, the owner of this GT4 got the date for his Porsche Experience Center delivery and visit. With more than a month to prepare, he called us to schedule for his GT4 to receive our track package plus before he drove home to Ohio. With a Detailed Designs Auto Spa Xpel clear bra installation, it would give him a peace of mind to enjoy the ride without the worries of unnecessary damage.

Due to a scheduling conflict that would end with him not able to enjoy his track time at the Porsche Experience Center, the owner requested that Detailed Designs Auto Spa pick up his GT4 so he could enjoy his PEC visit. Of course we obliged! The trip back to Detailed Designs Auto Spa consisted of sub 3,000 RPM engine speeds and video documentation of the whole drive with a Blackvue DR650 recording. This is just another layer of protection for our clients that we insist upon at no additional cost. The devil is in the details and we understand how to take things to the next level.

We offer our clients the option for us to pick up their Porsche via our enclosed custom aluminum car hauler. It features an escape hatch along with a removable fender. This allows us to open a door and step out, without damage and without crawling out a window of your car. Our pick up service features the same care we put into each clear bra wrap and Modesta application.

How long will this take and what do I do while I wait?

Typically, our ‘Track Package’ clear bra installation is completed in a day. We do not cut our installations loose the same day though. The reality of clear bra installation is that it expands and contracts and when installed, sometimes there is some slight releasing. When this minor releasing is addressed before leaving, it is a very minor fix. Keeping a project over night and reinspecting it before it is released is, in our opinion, a more responsible method for a higher quality installation.

So the question is, what is one to do while you wait for your car to be prepared? It’s fortunate for you that Atlanta has a great number of things to keep you busy for a day or two. For general sight seeing, HERE are some options. Want something louder and faster to do? Try Atlanta Motorsports Park‘s kart racing or kart school. Road Atlanta may be worth a visit on the right weekend. If you like a dirtier and dustier style of fun, you can rent ATVs, dirt-bikes and side-by-sides at Durham Town. As home of Bobby Jones, Georgia has a rich golfing culture and some awesome golf courses for the avid golfer. Wine tasters can have their fill at Château Élan.

After a day of your significant other tagging along, no doubt they will enjoy fine dining in the evening. One of my personal favorites for something special is Canoe. Porsche Targa GTS 991.1 gets Clear Bra Installed and Nano Coating Applied in Atlanta

Ever show up to work and feel like you have the best job in the world? When my guys and I look back on the finish product after installing clear bra, performing paint correction, doing a detail service or applying a nano coating we typically feel like we have the best jobs in the world. We are paid to make incredible cars look as beautiful as possible….to satisfy serious car enthusiasts and give them the peace of mind that their baby is as protected as it could be. The roads and conditions in Atlanta are not ideal for someone wanting to keep a fine automobile as close to defect-free as possible. Having clear bra and our nano coating applied to a new car allows someone to enjoy their new car without the added stress of worrying about the most common forms of damage; rock impacts/chips and chemical/contaminant etching.

The owner of this Targa GTS brought it to us the same day he took delivery. As bad as it feels having to immediately give up a car you’ve waited months on to be built and delivered, he knew that protecting it right out of the gates was the best path to a long and healthy car-life. He wanted protection, gloss and ease of maintenance. After a consultation he arrived at having us install our track package clear bra protection, nano coating for the body and nano coating for the wheels and calipers. This would give him the ultimate in protection on the most prone areas to rock chips on a Porsche GTS and the ease of maintenance with the nano.

One minor adjustment was made to the rear emblems as requested by the owner. He felt the rear emblems was a bit busy so we kept the PORSCHE and GTS emblems, removed the rest and centered the GTS.

To give a little insight into the coverage for this car, here is how we prep a Porsche 911 for clear bra installation:
Headlights removed so that the clear bra can be wrapped inside the headlight housing.
Side markers removed for additional wrapping.
Tow hook cover removed and wrapped(including the bumper portion inside the tow hook cover opening).
Gas door wrapped and door opening on the fender wrapped.
Hood emblem removed and film installed under the emblem with no exposed edges.
All exposed edges wrapped.
This type of installation takes more time than a typical clear bra installation but the results are better protection, less edges for debris to build up on and a far improved look over common clear bra wraps.

Yes. Detailed Designs Auto Spa is factory certified by Xpel Technologies. We traveled to Xpel Technologies headquarters in San Antonio, Texas to be factory certified. We have completed their advanced training course.

Detailed Designs Auto Spa uses industry leading clear bra cutting technology and Xpel’s DAP software to cut precision patterns. We are qualified to modify the software patterns for additional coverage and to ensure you have the most beautiful clear bra installation in Atlanta.

How does XPEL ULTIMATE Paint Protection Film heal itself?

XPEL ULTIMATE Paint Protection Film uses a special polymer in its clear coat that flows even though it is cured. This allows the clear coat to find its natural level again after being disturbed on the surface.

How deep a scratch will heal?

The top coat is designed to heal superficial surface scratches and common swirl marks that occur during routine washing of the car. If the scratch penetrates through the film’s top coat, it will not heal. If a rock impacts on the film and causes a deformation, the top coat does not have the ability to heal.

How long does it take for a scratch to heal?

The time for a scratch to heal depends on the severity of the scratch and the ambient temperature. Minor scratches usually heal in one hour at room temperature (72°F). In warmer climates, healing time will be shorter. The healing process can be accelerated at any time by placing the car in warm sunlight, pouring hot water over the defect and ,for those comfortable with it, using a heat gun to warm the surface(over heating will cause damage to the clear bra and possibly your car. Please use caution when using a heat gun!).

My car already has one or more rock chips. Can Xpel clear bra be installed over existing damage?

Yes, clear bra can be installed over existing damage. Rock chips or other more severe damage may be able to be filled with paint by request, but it is likely that you will notice where the damage was before the film was installed. For many people, knowing where the damage already was leads them back to the damaged spot rather than it being overly noticeable. Being quick to have clear bra installed protects you from this being likely to occur.

How many times will the clear coat heal itself?

With this technology, there is no limit to the number of times the top coat can heal itself. As long as the top coat is not penetrated it will heal over and over again.

How long will the top coat last?

Depending on how the film is cared for, the top coat can last indefinitely. Regular washing and waxing will keep the clear coat in top condition for years to come. Adding a nano paint coating system on top of your Xpel clear bra will give you the best chemical resistance and remove the need to regularly wax the film. Read more about nano options HERE.

– Stain & Chemical Resistance

How does XPEL ULTIMATE Paint Protection Film resist staining?

The clear coat on XPEL ULTIMATE has a very low surface energy, which makes it more difficult for organic compounds to stick to the film. Insect splatter, bird droppings and environmental contaminants (which would normally cause yellowing) such as oils from the road, automobile exhaust and pollution can be removed during regular washing. Proper and regular care goes a long ways in protecting your investment and beautiful car. Xpel clear bra must be properly maintained with safe automotive detailing products to get the most out of it.

What if a stain does not come off the film during normal washing?

If ordinary car wash or soap and water will not remove a stain, there are a variety products available to do the job. In most cases simple isopropyl rubbing alcohol will remove anything on the surface of the film. In cases of more severe staining, or where something has been left on the film for a long period of time, a sparing amount of lacquer thinner can be used. – How to Care for the Film

How is care of XPEL ULTIMATE different than other films?

XPEL ULTIMATE Paint Protection Film simply requires regular and proper cleaning and sealing(unless you already have a nano paint coating system applied).

Our general care instructions are:

Wait 48 hours after installation to wash your car or allow it to get wet
Remove insect or other stains with bug and tar remover as soon as it’s noticed
Stubborn stains can be removed with 99% isopropyl alcohol, a quality automotive citrus based pH neutral cleaner or lacquer thinner. Take care to keep these chemicals off the vehicle’s paint
Seal with sealant like Sonax Polymer Net Shield or Menzerna Powerlock at least once every 3 months to preserve high gloss
In lieu of a sealant, you can have a nano paint coating system installed over the clear bra
Light scratches in the film will self-heal in 20-30 minutes at room temperature. In colder conditions, or to accelerate the process, pour warm water (120°F) over the affected area (do not pour hot water over cold glass or other frozen surfaces)

Can I wax the film when I wax the rest of the car?

Unlike most paint protection films on the market, XPEL ULTIMATE Paint Protection film can be waxed and sealed just like your paint. Ensure you do not use dyed waxes as they can stain with their harsher solvents.

Will XPEL clear bra make the paint underneath the film fade at a different rate?

No. XPEL Paint Protection Film allows UV to penetrate the film and fade the paint underneath at the same rate as the exposed paint.

Does XPEL ULTIMATE Paint Protection Film install the same way as other films?

All paint protection films on the market have, at least, subtle differences in how they are installed. This is due to differences in adhesive chemistry, top coat density, urethane film make up, etc. With many years of clear bra installation experience in Atlanta, Detailed Designs Auto Spa is qualified to give you a beautiful installation that you will be very satisfied with for years to come.

– Warranty Coverage

What does the XPEL ULTIMATE 10 year warranty cover?

XPEL warrants XPEL ULTIMATE Paint Protection Film to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for ten (10) years from the date of purchase. Covered defects include: yellowing, staining, cracking, blistering and delaminating. This warranty does not extend coverage to damage caused by normal wear and tear, road debris impact, accidents, collisions or intentional damage of any kind.

Detailed Designs Auto Spa offers a lifetime warranty on our own clear bra installation craftsmanship.

Does the warranty include labor to replace the film?

Yes, for customers in the United States. Reimbursement for labor charges covered by the warranty will be made directly to the Authorized XPEL Dealer performing warranty replacement. Specific rules and restrictions apply.
